Healthy Lifestyles Week Continues!
This week to emphasize healthy lifestyles, students have documented their healthy habits (beautiful artwork!), sampled local green peppers, and participated in getting active during class!

Garden Harvest: Sweet Potatoes!
On October 30th, the MES Garden Club harvested over 80lbs of sweet potatoes from our school garden!
Farm-to-School – Acorn Squash!
On Wednesday, students got to sample a simple preparation of locally-grown acorn squash. Students learned acorn squash is high in Vitamin C as well as the minerals magnesium and potassium. We thank SHIP for all their support of this wellness experience for our kids!

Garden Cleanup a Huge Success!
Garden volunteers recently prepared the MES Garden for the fall season. Kindergartner Alex Erlich, was joined by his parents who helped in the clean up efforts and took photographs documenting the event. Lindsey Mefford, an alum of Matoaka, came out with her family to earn volunteer service hours. The gentlemen that joined us BJ Hennessey, Jim Mefford and Josh Erlich opted out of the photo, but provided invaluable services trimming bushes and performing minor repairs to the garden infrastructure. Our Garden Volunteers are Amazing! Thank you!!
Farm to School Sampling – Roasted Red Potatoes!
On Wed October 3rd, students sampled locally-grown roasted red potatoes and it was a hit! The simple preparation used only garlic, black pepper, dried parsley, and Canola oil. MES PTA thanks SHIP and cafeteria staff for helping to bring all kids a chance to make healthier choices!
