Our first Local Produce Day of the 2012-2013 school year was held on September 26th and featured gorgeous red, yellow and green peppers from Kelrae Farm. Served raw with a dipping sauce, they certainly caught the eye of everyone who entered the lunch line. The children reported that they loved seeing all the bright colors.
The following week, locally grown potatoes were cut into thin wedges, roasted and served. The children loved them! Said one student, “they were like healthy french fries and tasted so good!”
The Healthy Lifestyles Committee would like to give a very special thanks to Candy, the Matoaka Cafeteria manager and all of her staff. These amazing ladies go out of their way to make Matoaka’s Local Produce Day possible.
We couldn’t do it without you!
